Common TV Aerial Jobs
How to repair & fit a coax plug on the end of an aerial cable
A common problem that is easily solve is re fitting a coax plug onto the end of the aerial cable. The coax plug is the silver looking round plug that is fitted to the end of the cable and plugs into the back of the television set to bring you the Tv picture. If fitted incorrectly it can cause problems such as picture glitch, loss of sound and even complete loss of picture and sound all together. Often problems with the Television reception can be put down to a badly installed plug or even a plug that doesn't fit well in the back of the Tv set.
A simple check of these things can save you many hours of lost time trying to resolve a faulty signal. It can also save money from being spent on the services of an Aerial & Satellite Engineer. Calling out an Aerial fitter can be costly and in some cases unnecessary, especially if the fault lies with a poor connection due to the coax plug.
When checking the coax plug, it can be helpful to see if the copper braid within the cable is isolated away from the copper wire in the centre of the cable. The copper braid needs to be in contact with the outer case of the coax plug, with the copper wire inserted into the inner part of the coax plug. If this is not done correctly, then you can experience interference on the Television picture and sound. The braid and the copper wire should always be isolated from each other and must never come into contact.
Another common problem is when the coax plug from a aerial cable is plugged in to the Tv plate on a wall. This is where an internal aerial cable runs into a Coax plate situated in a wall often behind the Tv. A short piece of aerial cable is then plugged into the plate which then runs into the back of the Tv. If the coax plug doesn't fit snuggly into the Coax Plate then a poor connection is often the cause of a bad picture. Making sure of a tight fitting coax plug into the face plate will resolve the reception problem with the Tv.
